“You are what your deepest desire is. As your desire is, so is your intention. As your intention is, so is your will. As your will is, so is your deed. As your deed is, so is your destiny.” – The Upanishads
Everything that happens in the universe begins with an intention. When I decide to pour myself a cup of coffee, take the dog on a walk or call a friend, it all begins with an intention.
Intentions are the creative power behind the fulfillment of our deepest needs
and wildest dreams.
A directed impulse of conscious energy, intentions act like an embryo holding concentrated creative DNA. It is the seed form of that which you aim to create in your life, whether for money, relationships, spiritual awakening, or love.
Like real seeds, when you begin creating focused intentions and then release them into the fertile ground of your consciousness, they grow.
Any new beginning is a natural time to acknowledge our goals and get clear about what we desire to see unfold in our lives over the next period of time. Take the time this season to set intentions and remind yourself that in every moment and with every decision, you really do have the power to create the life you truly desire.
Inspired by the wisdom of many teachers before me, below you will find 5 steps for setting powerful of intentions.
Step 1: Cultivate Stillness
Take a deep breath. Pause at the top of your inhale. Exhale. Pause at the bottom of your exhale.
Could you feel the stillness in the pause? That space between your inhale and exhale? That is the stillness — that right there is the space we want to cultivate. You can create this in your breath and also within your mind.
One of the most effective tools we have for cultivating stillness is meditation. Meditation takes us beyond the ego-mind and into the space of pure consciousness. This is the ideal state in which to plant your seeds of intention. Right down deep into pure and infinite potential. Try this quick, guided meditation to begin.
Step 2: Practice Listening
It is here in a state of still awareness that we begin to hear the often, fainted voice of the heart. What some may call the deeperself, the one that will always tell you the truth, even if you aren’t so keen to listen. Now is the time to practice listening to it. It will help direct and clarify your intention and it will always guide you towards your destiny.
Step 3: Write out your intentions
Write down your desires and intentions. Be as specific as possible. What do you want? Write it down! The more concentrated and specific your intention is, the more potent the seedling and thus the more fruitful an outcome.
Step 4: Say the magic words
“Abracadabra” comes from the Aramaic (before Hebrew) phrase — “Avra kehdabra” which means, “I will create as I speak.”
While you don’t have to say “abracadabra” exactly, the act of declaring your intentions out loud is essential to making them a reality because you are quite literally speaking them into existence.
But the language is crucial. Avoid from using terms like “I want” or even “I desire” when expressing yourself. Instead embody your desires as if they have already been given to you by using “I am.” I AM financially stable. I AM free of pain in my right shoulder. I AM comfortable in my body. I AM worthy of great love. Attract what it is you seek for your life by becoming it in every moment and watch your desires manifest in the most magnificent of ways!
Step 5: Detach from the Outcome
Relinquish your rigid attachment to a specific result or outcome. Attachment is based on fear and insecurity. Live instead in the wisdom of uncertainty. Have faith, believe with all of your heart that everything always works out the way it should. Let it go and remain open to the opportunities coming your way.
